A Day Out at Gudetama the Lazy Egg x Artbox Cafe & Boutique

Earlier in the year, I went to the Pusheen x Artbox Cafe & Boutique and had a lovely time! There is nothing I love more than themed places and themed food. When Artbox announced the next theme was Gudetama the Lazy Egg, I was excited to get back down to Brighton and check it out! I actually went twice before writing this post as Dann surprised me with a weekend out in Brighton for my birthday and then I went along with Dann, Claire, and a few friends. Gudetama the Lazy Egg is a tired, exhausted, lazy egg that has a round bottom! He’s a funny character and his arrival came a quite interesting menu of savory food too!

For those who are unfamiliar with the Artbox Cafe & Boutique, it is an ever-changing, themed building that features Sanrio’s characters, as well as a downstairs full of different items to purchase and ice cream. The upstairs has a sit down savory and sweet menu, full of goodies for you to try, all decorated to honor the themed character.

Drinks

The first thing we ordered were drinks! Dann got a cappuccino, which came in this very silly mug, themed around Gudetama, complete with a chocolate bit of art on top. Despite being a simple order, it came with all of the touches that you would expect! I had a Blueberry Rosemary Smash mocktail which was lightly rosemary flavored with the blueberry at the front of the drink. This was very light and refreshing! I also had a Pineapple Berry Cooler which was sweet and refreshing. I really enjoy the cold drinks at the cafe, they are always cute with simple touches that take them over the top!

Savory Treats

There are only three savory treats at this time – we got two of them – a Gudetama Sailor Soup, which is a tomato and basil soup with butter bread and a Gudetama hot doggo. The tomato and basil soup was a nice little treat, I quite liked the way they had cut bread out to look like Gudetama. There was enough bread to really sop up the soup too. The Gudetama hot doggo came with fries, a garlic aoli, a small salad, and loads of toppings on the dog itself. It’s worth mentioning that all of the menu is vegan, so these were both vegan items, and they tasted very yummy. We enjoyed our treats and love the little cutouts that decorate it, as well as these small side bowls for the butter and aoli. They are just so cute! We only got the savory menu on the second time we visited.

Sweet Treats

When it came to sweet treats, both days that we went, there were out of the cheesecake item that I really wanted, so instead we went with a peach ice cream sunday, which had a lot of whipped cream around a peach half that had the Gudetama stencil on, a three flavor ice cream with loads of toppings including little gummy fried eggs and marshmallows, and a Gudetama meringue with ice cream and a macaroon. My favorite of the three was the Meringue – I really loved the mango filling inside of the meringue and the little macaroon – it was so good. The peach ice cream sundae was also a fun treat, especially as we ate through the peach half.

The Gudetama the Lazy Egg X Artbox Cafe & Boutique was a great day out and we can’t wait to see the next theme and end up there again! The boutique also had lots of awesome items all around the theme, but we were really there for the treats ourselves. There are just so many cute touches and so much fun to be had in a cafe like this! They have extended the theme for a bit longer, so if you are looking for some lazy egg to enjoy, you still have time!
