Pure Pet Food

*AD – the items in this review were gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Pancake, our British short haired cat really loves to eat. He’s mostly soft fur, but a good size and does go through food quite fast, if I am honest. He’s not the biggest fan of wet food, but seems to enjoy it on occasion. He also loves his treats, of which we have a few types, waiting around to treat him when he’s being particularly cute or loving. When it comes to the foods we were giving Pancake, we weren’t very diligent and kind of just picked whatever was at the local supermarket. A lot of these foods have many, many different fillers and additives, which aren’t good for your pet or are just fillers like potatoes and wheat. Looking more closely to what we were feeding him, we decided to check out a brand that not only has only good ingredients within the food, but who were also doing something interesting. Pure Pet Food‘s line of dog and cat food come dried and are then re-hydrated in water.

Surf and Turf Cat Food

Pancake does love the smell of fish and upon opening up this Surf and Turf bag of food, we could all smell the fish. That’s a great sign when it comes to cat food you want your pet to eat! There wasn’t a wishy-washy smell of random food at all. The ingredient list is simple; chicken, white fish, carrot, apple, celery, salmon oil and minerals. It’s easy to understand and see exactly what you are feeding to your pet. Pure Pet Food has a system where the box contains the food and two scoops, one to measure food and another to measure the water needed to hydrate the food you are serving. You just mix up the warm water scoops with the food scoops in the bowl and you are all set. On the back of the box, you are able to see the serving size in scoops for various cat sizes but they also have a quick calculator on their site, which can recommend how much food you should buy and let you know how many days the food should last your pet.

The bag that the food comes in, within the box, is quite a big bag. It seems to be that way so that the bag can be wrapped back up and placed back in the box, to last longer. Pancake seems to really love this food, he couldn’t keep his head out of the bowl. Pancake is one of those cats that eats quite a bit, but also leaves a bit to come back too – which he did with this food as well. I think the smell was really enticing to him! Once the cat food was mixed and set aside, it didn’t stink up the house or anything, but I am sure he can still smell it in the other room.

Taste of the Ocean Pet Treats

Pure Pet Food does a few different types of pet treats for cats, having a wider variety for dogs. The Taste of the Ocean treats are actually good for both cats and dogs. These treats are literally just dried cubes of white fish, caught in the Pacific Ocean in New Zealand. Each treat bag has a ton of treats – 90 pieces, which can really last a while. They smell so much like fish that just opening up the bag has resulted in Pancake rubbing up against our legs and getting up on the counter to be in our face. It’s good to have such a pure and clean treat to give him – you can see that it’s just dried fish with nothing else, so it feels good to treat him to a great product that he enjoys. Pure Pet Food also has a food topper, which is a crunchy bit of food that can be added to the wet pet food to make it a bit more interesting for animals – we will probably be checking that out next as a little extra for our lovely cat.

Both of these products seem to be a hit with Pancake, and it’s good to not have to worry about the different additives that are in the food and treats he is consuming!

I love that they come dried, that would be SO convenient for travel purposes! As someone who takes their pets travelling (including camping and backpacking) at every chance possible, that really makes them stand out!

Oh I need to try these out for my Toby. I don’t give him much wet cat food either because it usually makes him sick and he throws it up. So maybe this might be a little better for him. I also love how it comes in fish flavors because he will not eat anything chicken or turkey flavored! He’s a bit high maintenance lol
