A Day Out at Cecily Beauty & Relaxation Spa

Cecily

*AD – the experience in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

The Cecily Beauty and Relaxation spa has been recently refurbished, so both Claire and I were invited to a day out to try out their relaxing services and see the new look. There is a lot to do at this spa from body treatments to lashes, to pedicures, to piercings and spray tans. There are so many ways to indulge in self care and relaxation. Partnered with the Alchemy & i blow dry and bubbles, it’s the perfect place to book a day all about treating yourself.

The Alchemy & i blow dry and bubbles lounge is an area where you can get your hair styled and blow dried, while also sipping on delicious cocktails and bubbly drinks. This is like the ultimate bar for those who want to look fabulous. I didn’t end up getting a blow dry and spent my time in the Cecily spa, but still found this concept to be lovely and will be back to try out this area in the future.

Cecily Beauty and Relaxation Spa

The Cecily spa is named after Cecily Neville, who was the Duchess of York and the mother of Richard III and Edward IV. She was the last resident at the Berkhamsted Castle, so this spa takes in local history and breaths life into it through it’s walls. There are portraits of Cecily on the walls, rooms are named after various historical places and the decor is also inspired by this.

The ceilings are covered in various different, floral pattern wall paper, which looks interesting and throws back to the heritage. Every single room is sleek – from the massage rooms to the piercing corner, with beautiful curtains, tasteful art and great accents. It’s very clear everything has been planned and thought out when it comes to this spa. The main room, where you are able to get your nails done and drink some juices, is laid out to be conversational – with a large island in the middle and a chandelier draped with flowers as it’s centrepiece. On steps, you will find the chairs for pedicures where as cute tables for manicures line the other wall. Massage and facial rooms are private, each decorated as beautiful as this main room, and everything is very clean.

It’s worth mentioning that Cecily has an app that you can download on your phone. Many of the rooms include QR codes, which you can use to order a drink or get a member of staff to come in to see you, if you need anything. This means you won’t be waiting around and can call upon anyone you need.

Gel Nail Manicure

After filling out a quick form on a tablet so that the spa knew of any allergens and what treatments I was interested in, I sat down with Sarah, my assigned staff member, to get my treatments done. You see, at Cecily, you are assigned a staff member who can do all of your wanted treatments, that way you are not passed around from person to person. Sarah was very professional and just nice to talk too, which seemed to ring true with all of the staff. Towards each other, everyone was friendly and happy – and that extended to the customers.

Cecily doesn’t do extensions, but they do cut and shape your nails, as well as clean up your fingers, before painting them with the gel polish of your choice. There are quite a few to choose from, but I picked a light purple that reminded me of spring, which I am hoping will come soon. Getting my nails done here was a beautiful experience – I had not had gel nails in a very long time, and Sarah was easy to talk to and worked at a very nice pace. I was also given a drink to sip on while my nails were being done!

Flash and Dash Facial

After my nails had been perfectly painted – seriously, this is one of the best jobs I have ever had on my nails, it was time for a facial. To get a facial, you are moved from the main nail room into a private side room, of which there are quite a few. I had never had a facial before, so Sarah explained what it was going to be like and walked me through all of the products that were going to be used. There are a combination of Cecily’s own products and ESPA products that they do use for the facial – depending on the type of skin you have. Sarah determined I had a more mixed skin, picked out the perfect products, and set them aside. She then left the room so I could strip down, get comfortable, and then begin the treatment. They made sure the temperature of the room was perfect for me and the calm music at the perfect volume.

Again, I have never had a facial before, but now I’d like one at least once a week. This facial had her putting different products on my face, almost massaging them in, before carefully taking wiping them off with a warm towel-thing. As she did this, calm music played in the background, making for a very relaxing treatment. There was a section of the treatment that just was a shoulder massage – a beautiful shoulder massage, might I add, that I really did need. At the end of the treatment, everyone is given a water and juice shot, which is a nice touch.

This facial left me feeling refreshed, glowing and very much like my skin was brand new. I feel like this will be something I have to do at least once a month, because it really did feel worth it.

Cecily was a really fun experience, great for a girls day out or a bit of self care. Their products are cruelty free and vegan where they can be. All of the staff were so knowledgeable and kind, the treatments were top of the line and the environment was just a fun, relaxing one. I look forward to going back there!

I’ll be honest because I’m a man – but I secretly love a spa day. Mind you I haven’t been for a few years now. However, I love the escapism and it did wonders for my mental health. I felt like a new person when I left 🙂

There is no shame in doing spa days as a man! My partner has done home face masks and such, to care for his skin. 🙂 Glad you got to enjoy the experience. 🙂
